Chiisai App Solutions is integrating Skyhook’s Local Faves into its Book Crawler iOS app to deliver the “best location and social features” to book lovers around the world.
The idea is to provide readers with an easy way to discover new books based on a premise that often book suggestions come from friends in their social networks. The Book Crawler app’s community feature brings location to the forefront, making those recommendations much more relevant. For instance, if the most popular book on a college campus is The Help, users may chose to read that book to get in on the discussion. Or if a reader is headed to Martha’s Vineyard this summer, they may find that Caleb’s Crossing happens to be the most popular read on the topic.
Thanks to the Local Faves integration, Book Crawler is able to sing along popular social networks like Good Reads, Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare to allow users to comment on what they are reading, check-in from a place where they are reading (i.e. Starbucks), or share their favorite author, without ever leaving the app…
Although I consider myself a big-time reader, I don’t find social networks around reading appealing. A friend of mine uses Good Reads and while I receive emails with the book titles he reads, I never found time to give it a try myself. Maybe if Book Crawler launches an Android app I’ll try it out. In the meantime, I’ll keep “hiding” my reads. 😉
