mDialog secures $5 million in Series A to ruin mobile video with ads

mDialog, the company that makes mobile and over the top (OTT) ad mediation solutions for linear and live TV ad insertion, has closed a $5 million Series A round of funding led by the BlackBerry Partners Fund. The new money will be used to expand mDialog’s offerings across all mobile and connected devices, including iOS and Android-based smartphones and tablets, Roku and other OTT platforms.

If you don’t know what mDialog is all about, you should know their Stream Mediation Platform provides both a lean-back TV commercial experience identical to traditional linear broadcast TV as well as a lean-forward interactive brand engagement experience on tablets, smartphones and OTT devices. In other words, they and their clients are capable to insert targeted video ads into both linear and live TV programming everywhere, effectively making you watch commercials instead of the actual TV show, movie or whatever else you may be watching…

Ok I do understand free content comes with a caveat (it’s advertising supported), but I’m not sure ad insertation is the right way to keep it free…
