Not everyone does routine checkups but does who do know it can be a pain in the neck. To solve this hassle, a company called Scanadu unveiled new line of smartphone accessories that read your body’s vital signs and beam that information to a doctor’s office. Three devices are in the pipeline:
- Scanadu Scout (pictured above), which reads vital signs like blood pressure, pulse, heart rate, blood oxygenation and temperature;
- Project ScanaFlo that can analyze urine; and
- Project ScanaFlu which can test a person’s saliva for cold or flu symptoms.
All three are waiting for the FDA approval, but the Scout may be the first one to hit the market. According to Scanadu, it will cost less than $150, and will gather and process the data inputs in less than ten seconds, helping its owners save some cash on medical costs (as they don’t have to actually drive to doctor and pay for his time).
Aside from communicating with a doctor, Scanadu also wants you to anonymously share your data with the rest of the world so you can see how you compare with other users. Not sure I dig that social element, but what do I know.
As for availability date, Scanadu hopes to have its devices released by the end of next year.
