Shazam has been identifying, grabbing lyrics for, and allowing purchases of songs on BlackBerry since last spring, with Storm compatibility arriving a little bit later in the summer. Since then, a new version came around to iPhone (and now BlackBerry) called Shazam Encore, which hosted faster song lookup, recommendations, and optimizations for song ID while in the car, so it can pick up tunes on the radio more efficiently. Of course, just to push the free users towards this new premium version, the original app is now limited to only five song IDs (tags) per month, while Encore gets as many as you want. D’oh. There aren’t many alternatives for this kind of software for BlackBerry, but I really hope Midomi makes the port at some point. If you’re big on music, you can nab Shazam Encore for $4.99 in the BlackBerry App World, or hit up Shazam’s homepage for a closer look.
