Kazam, the company started by former HTC executives, unveiled its first products. Seven of them to be more precise, a pair of more premium Thunder phones and five lower-end Trooper devices, all of which cater to first-time smartphone buyers and folks not looking for the latest bells and whistles.
The Thunder Q5.0 is the best of the pack though unfortunately we don’t have its specs sheet. We do know what’s Q4.5 all about – it packs a 4.5-inch FWVGA (854 x 480 pixels) screen, MediaTek’s quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz and 1GB of RAM.
In contrast, the entire Trooper series — which includes the X3.5, X4.0, X4.5, X5.0 and X5.5 — sport MediaTek’s dual-core chip and just 512MB of RAM, while screen resolution stays the same for the top three models, whereas the X3.5 and X4.0 have HVGA and WVGA screens, respectively.
It’s obvious Kazam doesn’t/can’t compete with the top-end phones of today like LG G2, Sony Xperia Z1 and Nexus 5; rather it’s positioning itself as a consumer-friendly value brand. Their phones come with almost zero Android customization though you do get the Kazam Rescue app preloaded that will instantly put you in touch with a support rep who will be able to remotely access your device to solve issues. In addition — and this is the really awesome part — Kazam offers free screen replacement if you crack it within the first year. No word on pricing or when these phones will start selling, though…
